A bit about me:

I’m Chazz, and I’ve been absolutely hooked on theme parks since my first Orlando trip at 17. I’m now 41, and that obsession has only grown stronger!

Over the years, I’ve visited all the Disney parks in Florida, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, Busch Gardens, Aquatica, Kennedy Space Centre - you name it, I’ve been there. I try to get back every other year with my wife and kids (though honestly, I wish it could be 5 times a year!).

It’s not just the parks I love - it’s everything about Orlando. The beaches, the weather, the shopping, the openness, the nature parks. There’s just something magical about the place.

Why this forum?

When I heard Universal was coming to the UK, I knew I had to create a space where fellow theme park enthusiasts could follow every step of this incredible journey. We’re going to watch this park being built from the ground up, right here in our own country!

I’ll be posting weekly construction updates, analysing planning documents, and sharing everything I’ve learnt from my years of Orlando visits to help everyone plan the perfect Universal UK trip when it opens in 2031.

Get involved:

  • Introduce yourself in this category
  • Share what you’re most excited about
  • Ask questions - especially if you’ve never been to a Universal park before!
  • Join the discussion!

Let’s build this community together as Universal builds the park!

Hey, this looks so exciting! Any idea on roughly time of year in 2031?

Based on everything coming out of the planning meetings, they are firmly pointing toward 2031 for the grand opening. It feels like a lifetime away, but since they officially broke ground in January, the clock is actually ticking now! Most of the big Universal projects (like Epic Universe) usually aim for a Spring/May launch to catch the summer rush, so that’s my bet

Hey guys, I’m Bobby and I’m looking forward to this park opening:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’ve been to Orlando Universal Studios and it’s one of my favourite parks! I’m hoping the UK Universal brings the same excitement as Orlando! Definitely going to plan a visit during the summer once it’s opened:raising_hands:

Thanks for the updates too:saluting_face:

Welcome to the group Bobby. Having Orlando as your benchmark is high praise because those parks are on another level. The cool thing about Bedford is that Universal is building it from scratch so it should have all the latest tech from day one. I’m also eyeing up a 2031 summer visit too. The rumors about Jurassic World and Wicked have everyone buzzing so it’s going to be a massive moment for the UK to finally have a park like this. Great to have you here.

This sounds good. I haven’t been to a universal park before so looking forward to all the tips!

That’s amazing! You’re going to love it. The scale of these parks is totally different from anything else in the UK, it’s basically like walking onto a movie set. I’ll be sharing plenty of tips as we get closer to 2031, so it’s the perfect time to start planning!

Thanks for the update! It’ll definitely be the best theme park here that we have in my opinion:raising_hands:

Do you know if there are any water rides that will be built here? Orlando has a lot but the weather there is always hotter than here so I’m thinking there won’t be as many?

@Bobby Haha, good shout on the weather! I’ve been thinking the same. Universal is famous for their water tech, but they aren’t silly, they know we aren’t Florida.

There are rumors they might use more ‘mist’ and ‘splash’ effects rather than ‘total soak’ rides, or maybe keep them in a specific ‘Summer’ zone. But honestly, if they build a world-class flume, I think us Brits will probably just bring a poncho and get on with it! Would you risk a soak for a top tier ride, or are you staying dry?

Ah right that makes sense, If they have any I’m going on them either way:joy:it’ll be worth the long wait, I’m definitely thinking of getting a fast pass to avoid the queues. But then again some of the queues in Orlando have an experience of their own like Harry Potter’s Forbidden Journey that you don’t want to miss either

Great point about fast passes!

Universal’s Express Pass system is brilliant but expensive (£100+ per person in Orlando). UK will definitely have it - that’s guaranteed revenue for them.

The queue experience thing is interesting though. Forbidden Journey’s queue is incredible - you’re walking through Hogwarts! Half the experience is the queue itself. Same with Gringotts, Hagrid’s, VelociCoaster.

I reckon UK will follow that model - make queues part of the experience so you don’t mind waiting. Plus UK weather means more indoor queue lines anyway (no standing outside in rain for 90 minutes!).

Fast pass will probably be:

- Standard entry (free, but long queues)

- Express Pass (£80-100, skip most queues)

- VIP Tour (£300+, skip everything plus behind scenes)

Would you pay £80 for Express Pass on a busy day or just queue?

The fast pass in Orlando has definitely been worth it when it’s school holidays there, even though the queue experiences are good, sometimes if the queue is over 2 hours it just gets abit tiring and doesn’t leave enough time to get through all of the rides!

Yeah and that’s the thing here, if the weather is bad then I don’t want to be waiting in the rain or cold for too long! I’ll definitely go during summer to experience it properly. And as it’s not far for me, I’ll do another session with the fast pass just to get on the rides!

I like to just walk around the park sometimes, grab some drinks, have some snacks from the stands and just watch everything! I hope they have the same vibe once it’s done!

Spot on about the weather! Waiting in a two hour queue in the Florida sun is one thing, but doing it in a Bedford downpour is quite another. I reckon quite a few people will be happy to pay for an Express Pass just to get into the dry as quickly as possible. But I also think they’ll make more of the queues indoors or under covers so the park can stay open all year round

Yeah I’m guessing they’ll have a lot of cover in case of the rainy days and I’m sure they’ll have plenty of poncho’s being sold around the park! I’ll be carrying one I bought from Amazon rather than paying a high price tag at the park.
