Working at Universal Studios UK: Jobs, Careers & What to Expect in 2031

Universal Studios UK isn’t just going to be Bedford’s biggest attraction, it’s going to be one of the region’s biggest employers. With a park of this scale, we’re talking thousands of jobs across every level imaginable. Here’s what we know and what we can predict based on Universal Orlando’s employment model.

Right Now: Construction & Procurement

The site is already generating employment. Archaeological teams, civil engineers, utilities contractors (ESP and Veolia are already on site) and groundworks crews are all active. If you’re in construction, engineering or procurement in the Bedford area, opportunities are already emerging through the supply chain. Worth keeping an eye on Bedford Council’s economic development announcements for contractor opportunities.

2031: The Big Picture

This is where it gets exciting. Universal Orlando employs over 25,000 people across its resort. Universal UK will be smaller at launch but we’re still likely looking at anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 permanent roles by opening day, covering:

Ride Operations: the most iconic Universal jobs

Entertainment & Characters: performers, costumed characters, show crews

Food & Beverage: from street carts to full restaurants

Retail: every themed shop needs a team

Hotel & Resort: if on-site hotels are confirmed (likely)

Security & Guest Services: Universal Orlando has an enormous guest services operation

Corporate & Management: marketing, HR, finance, IT

Based on Orlando, Universal typically begins hiring 12-18 months before opening. That puts the first major recruitment drive somewhere around late 2029 to early 2030.

The Orlando Insight

Having spent 24 years visiting Universal Orlando, one thing stands out about their staff, the training and culture is exceptional. Universal invests heavily in team member development and the guest experience shows it. Bedford will benefit from that same model being transplanted to the UK.

For Bedford locals especially, this park represents a genuine long-term career opportunity, not just a seasonal job.

Discussion, would you work there?

Would you consider working at Universal Studios UK? What role would you go for? And for any Bedford locals reading, are you already tracking the construction jobs coming through the supply chain? I’ve always dreamed of working as a cast member at Universal Orlando with thoughts of it being a fun job…and big park discounts!! :joy::roller_coaster:

I think it’ll be a fun job IF the right staff is hired. The staff at Orlando are so in character! They really make it feel as if you’re living inside a dream! They play the part so well! Whether is universal studios or Disney Land. They make you feel welcome and special. I hope they bring the same atmosphere here with the staff members. I’ve been to theme parks around the UK and I’d say I’ve met a lot of miserable workers who just stand there looking depressed. I understand they’re doing a job but I feel they need to put effort in if they want to create an unforgettable experience.

So I’m hoping the staff here will be fun, excited and welcoming to everyone!

Bobby absolutely nailing it here! This is honestly one of the biggest factors that separates Universal Orlando from UK theme parks. The staff training in Orlando is on another level entirely. They’re not just doing a job, they’re performing a role and they genuinely seem to love it.

UK theme parks have a lot of catching up to do on that front! Universal will bring their training culture with them though so Bedford should feel very different to anything we’ve experienced here before. Fingers crossed

Hey, approximately how many attractions are going to be in the park?

Great question Dino! From what I have been reading on here nothing is officially confirmed yet but Chazz reckons it will be similar to Islands of Adventure in Orlando which has around 20 attractions. Though knowing Universal they will probably want to go bigger to make a splash for the UK opening. Hopefully Chazz can give you a more detailed answer, he knows far more about this than me!

Great question. Nothing is officially confirmed but based on the site footprint and Universal’s own projections of 12 million annual visitors, I would expect somewhere between 50 and 70 attractions across the full resort at maturity. For comparison Islands of Adventure opened in 1999 with around 18 attractions and has grown significantly since. Universal typically opens a new park with 25 to 35 headline experiences and builds out from there. Bedford will want to make a strong opening statement so expect a substantial lineup from day one.
